Faceoff - When the puck is dropped between one player from each team in the faceoff circle; it signals the start or resuming of play.

Hooking - The act of using the stick in a manner that enables a player to restrain an opponent.

Icing - When a player hits the puck from behind the center red line, and it goes to the opposing goal line, without touching a teammate.

Power Play - Occurs when a team has a one-man or two-man advantage because an opponent received a penalty.

Save - A goaltender prevents a shot by the opponent from entering the net.

Short-Handed - When a goal is scored in ice hockey when a team’s on-ice players are outnumbered by the opposing team’s.

Slapshot - Hitting the puck with the blade of the stick after taking a full backswing.

Tripping - When a player trips an opposing player with their stick or uses their skate against the other player’s skate causing them to lose their balance or fall.
