The Atlanta Gladiators announced Tuesday that the Boston Bruins of the NHL have assigned goaltender Dan Vladar to the team from the Providence Bruins of the AHL. In addition, defenseman Taylor Doherty has been loaned to Atlanta by the P-Bruins.
Vladar, 20, spent his rookie season in North America split between the Gladiators and Providence Bruins. The Czech Republic native appeared in 18 games with Atlanta, which included earning his first North American pro win in a 4-2 victory over the Allen Americans on October 19th. The former 3rd Round pick (75th overall) of the Boston Bruins in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft was undefeated in regulation in eight games in the AHL for the Providence Bruins with a 4-0-1 record, 2.62 goals-against average and .921 save percentage. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound goalie played one season for the Chicago Steel in the USHL in 2015-16 prior to signing an entry level deal with the NHL’s Bruins, where he compiled a goals-against average of 2.31 and .920 save percentage.
Doherty, 26, brings over 250 games of AHL experience to the Gladiators. The 6-foot-8, 235-pound defenseman has accumulated 43 points (7-36-43) and 392 penalty minutes in 256 games in the AHL with the Worchester Sharks, Toronto Marlies and Providence Bruins. The 2nd Round pick (57th overall) of the San Jose Sharks in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft skated in 11 games with the P-Bruins earning two assists and a plus-two rating along with 15 points (3-12-15) and 86 penalty minutes with the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL during the 2016-17 campaign. The former captain of the Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL collected seven points (4-3-7) in seven playoff games for the Solar Bears last season.
In a non-related transaction, goalie Troy Passingham has been released from his training camp try-out.
