Coming off two wins at home against Norfolk, the Gladiators returned to action on Sunday afternoon, welcoming in the South Carolina Stingrays for the teams’ first of eleven matchups on the season.
The goalies stole the show in this game as the teams were unable to manage a goal after the full 60 minutes of regulation. Zane McIntyre, in his first game since being assigned from the Boston Bruins, made 33 saves in regulation. Rookie goaltender, Adam Carlson stopped all 19 shots he faced as well and the game shifted to overtime with both teams already earning a point in the standings and eyeing the second.
Just 1:45 into the extra session, Marcus Perrier batted a rebound past McIntyre from the top of the crease which won the game for South Carolina. The game's lone goal was assisted by Rob Flick, who took the initial shot, and John Parker, on Perrier's third goal of the season.
Atlanta, even in the overtime loss, improved to 23 points on the year after seeing their record slide to 10-9-2-1. The Gladiators still remained in sole possession of second place in South Division. South Carolina leap-frogged Cincinnati into fourth place in the South Division with a record of 8-7-1-0 and 17 points on the campaign.
