Murovich Returns to Gladiators for 2016-2017

The Atlanta Gladiators announced Saturday that veteran forward Tyler Murovich has agreed to terms with the organization for the 2016-2017 season. With the announcement, the Gladiators further solidified the team's leadership via Murovich's position as an Alternate Captain. The Pittsburgh, PA native was named to the pivotal role last season, and will continue his alternate captaincy in the upcoming year. "For Murv, it's about how he carries himself as a professional," said Gladiators Head Coach Andy Brandt. "He handles himself with class off the ice, first and foremost, when he's out engaging with people in the community."Murovich, 26, skated in all of the Gladiators 72 games last season, amassing 19 goals and 20 assists for a total of 39 points. . The 5-foot-9, 185-pound forward finished the season ranked third on the team in goals (19) and fifth on the team in both assists (19) and points (39). The 2016-2017 season will mark the fifth year that the forward has played at least part, if not all, of the season with the Gladiators.

"On the ice, and around the rink, he exhibits the same level of professionalism by how hard he works and how dedicated he is to the game.

"For example, you have Murv bringing guys into the weight room daily and making sure that they're doing the things necessary to be successful off-ice as much as on-ice. Having that kind of leadership is good for the young guys, because it's important for players in this league to see such a high level of commitment, and to be held accountable by someone they have great respect for."

Over the course of his career, Murovich has competed in 404 games as a professional in the AHL and ECHL. In 64 career AHL games, Murovich has eight goals and seven assists with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Iowa Wild, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Syracuse Crunch. In 340 ECHL contests, he has 78 goals and 101 assists for a total 179 points. The Atlanta Gladiators 14th season kicks off at the Infinite Energy Arena on Friday, October 14th against the Toledo Walleye at 7:35 PM.
