The Atlanta Gladiators revealed the team’s 2016-2017 schedule on Thursday, with Opening Night set for Friday, October 14th, at 7:35 PM against the Toledo Walleye. The Gladiators will also face the Walleye the following evening at Infinite Energy Arena, with a start time of 7:05 PM. The Gladiators will host 11 different teams over the course of their 36 home games from mid-October through mid-April, some of which include a first look at recent additions to the ECHL. The Tulsa Oilers (OK) and the Wichita Thunder (KS) began ECHL play during the 14-15 season, and will make their first trip to Duluth in January and November, respectively. Similarly, in October, Atlanta will make its first trip to Texas to take on the Allen Americans, who joined the league in 14-15 as well. Also visiting the Infinite Energy Arena will be five teams very familiar to Gladiators fans. Division foes Greenville, South Carolina, Florida, and Orlando have multiple stints in town, as do the Norfolk Admirals. Fans should also recognize the Toledo Walleye and Elmira Jackals, both longtime ECHL member teams, and the Adirondack Thunder and Manchester Monarchs - both of whom made first visits to Duluth last season. 25 of the team’s 36 home games will fall on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, with six additional holiday games occurring when local children are out of school.Fan favorite dates returning for the 16-17 season include the Gladiators annual Thanksgiving game (11/24 vs. Norfolk) and the MLK Jr. Holiday Kids Day Out game (1/16 vs. Norfolk @ 12:35 PM). Games occurring on Tuesday through Thursday, as well as Saturday, will continue to start at 7:05 PM.
