Glads Fall 2-1 in Shootout

In front of a raucous crowd full of stuffed animals, the Gladiators looked to set the fur flying on Saturday night against Idaho. Tyler Murovich got the job done just over halfway through the 1st period, but the Glads and Steelheads would need an extra frame to settle the score, with Idaho emerging victorious in the shootout 2-1. Tyler Murovich opened the scoring for the Gladiators at the 10:37 mark of the first period, capitalizing on a 2-on-1 opportunity to take the 1-0 lead. Ian Barteaux created a turnover in the neutral zone, which allowed Justin Buzzeo to pass to Murovich at the left point. The assistant captain took a wrist shot past the Steelheads goaltender, Jack Campbell, and into the upper-right corner of the net. Murovich notched his 14th goal of the season, while Buzzeo and Barteaux picked up their ninth and seventh assists, respectively. Idaho answered back 11:01 into the second period to even the score. Shawn Boutin made a long pass from the right point that went along the goal line and across the face of the Gladiators goaltender, Matt Ginn. Jefferson Dahl stood at the edge of the crease in position to easily slot the puck into the net and tie the game at one. The score was Dahl's 17th goal of the year and Boutin's eighth assist of the year. After a scoreless third period, Atlanta and Idaho went into 3-on-3 overtime. A back-and-forth extra period ended scoreless and sent the game to a deciding shootout. Idaho converted on their first two shots while the Gladiators failed to score on their two attempts, ultimately sealing the victory and extra point for the Steelheads. With the loss on home ice, the Gladiators fall to 25-16-2-1 and now have 53 points for the season while the Steelheads improve to 22-18-4-1 and 49 points on the year.
